The crypto industry has come a long way over the last decade.

Its journey has given rise to many sub-sectors, all of which combine other niches like finance and culture.

One of these emerging trends is that of the PolitiFi tokens.

The name of this class of crypto comes from “politics” and “finance,” meaning that they represent the merger between politics and the crypto space.

Here’s everything to know about this new class of cryptocurrencies.

The Evolution of Memecoins and the Birth of PolitiFi

Memecoins have come a long way so far. They have been around since the early days of crypto, especially with the creation of Dogecoin.

Dogecoin is regarded as the first-ever memecoin and was created in 2013 as a joke.

However, the decade after that took a wild turn, launching Dogecoin into a new status as a billion-dollar asset in 2020.

Since then, others like Shiba Inu have risen to the occasion, with the memecoin market now worth billions of dollars in market cap.

The memecoin market wasn’t done evolving, though. Soon after the boom (and temporary bust) of Dogecoin, a new class of memecoins emerged: PolitiFi tokens.

Many believe the political memecoin sector to have been born in 2025, but its roots trace back to the 2020 U.S. Presidential elections.

Back then, political discussions on social media were all the rage. This boom in political interest birthed projects like ConstitutionDAO (PEOPLE), which attempted to purchase a rare copy of the U.S. Constitution through crowdfunding.

The elections came and went, followed by the crypto bear market—both of which severely bashed the interest in politics and memecoins.

Until the next elections came in.

Understanding PolitiFi Tokens

As explained earlier, PolitiFi tokens are a lot like memecoins.

However, instead of having meme or ideology themes, they are created around political figures or events.

They are similar to regular memecoins in every other regard, including their dependence on social media engagement and community support.

These tokens tend to perform incredibly well during election cycles, considering how they provide a way for investors to support and speculate on political movements.

Even though they are different, they are similar to conventional fundraising methods in politics.

The only difference is that they are decentralized. They are tradeable and can be created by anyone.

They can also be very risky if approached without the right amount of caution.

Several tokens in this category have gained popularity lately, due to their association with high-profile figures and events.

Some of the most well-known ones include:

MAGA Token

This token was inspired by Donald Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”

The MAGA token has gained massive attention so far and appealed to many Trump supporters, particularly before the November elections.

TREMP Token

TREMP became wildly popular, especially after the assassination attempt on Trump. It is one of the biggest examples of how things happen in the crypto space, where real-world events can have strong effects on prices.

BODEN Token

The popularity of the BODEN token dwindled right after former US president Joe Biden stepped down from the presidential reelections. However, it remains one of the best-known memecoins within the space.

KAMA Token

This token exploded upwards with Kamala Harris’ step into the U.S. presidential race. KAMA became incredibly popular from the time of Kamala Harris’ nomination to Donald Trump’s presidential win in November.

Official Trump ($TRUMP)

Donald Trump himself launched an official memecoin on 17 January, right before his inauguration.

This token skyrocketed to billions of dollars in market cap in less than a day, before crashing down again with Bitcoin’s loss of the $100,000 zone.

Melania Trump (MELANIA)

US first lady Melania Trump also launched a memecoin similar to her husbands, around the time of the presidential inauguration.

Although Melania isn’t exactly considered a politician, the $MELANIA token is every bit as valid a Politi-Fi token as $TRUMP.

How to Trade PolitiFi Tokens?

If you’re interested in trading PolitiFi tokens, here’s a simple guide to help you get started (swapping SOL (Solana) for TRUMP on Raydium as an example):

  1. Head over to CoinMarketCap and copy the TRUMP token address (6p6xgHyF…5icUSqi2jfGiPN) from the main page.

  8. Confirm the sale by swapping your SOL for TRUMP
  9. Check your wallet in a few minutes to find your tokens.

Overall, as the world of politics continues to intersect with technology, the PolitiFi sector is likely to follow along.

Investors must remember that while this asset class provides a great way to engage with politics, they should not be treated as complete (or infallible) investments.
